bringing on a former clinton power player. these are the topics for our agenda panel today. victoria defrancesco soto, lee fang and steve benen. gang, it's great to have you here. i want to start with this interesting civil war issue with steve stockman john cornyn. he said he's challenging cornyn because he's disappointed in the way he treated his fellow congressmen and broke the 11th commandment and undermined ted cruz's fight to stop obama care. steve, do you think that this is really what the challenge is all about? that statement that he made is just going over and over in my head. what do you make of that? >> well, i think you're right that there is certainly a civil war going on in the republican party right now. it seems odd in this case, in particular, because what we have is a very conservative senator in john cornyn being challenged by a hysterically conservative congressman in mr. stockman. i i think that it's a lot more than just the 11th commandment or the affordable care act with ted cruz. i think steve stockman is trying to possibly get a promotion and has a wider ven

clinton back tracking about his earlier remarks about the law which did so much damage. i want to play how the president is getting in line with president obama now. >> how difficult it is for you to suggest something to a sitting president. do you take credit for president barack obama honoring his word on obama care? >> first of all, i think it's important to point out he actually has tried to go beyond what he promised now. and in many places, he will be able to do that. >> you don't take credit for that? >> no. i waited for him to say that he felt badly about it. but the truth is the law that he signed did grandfather in the policies that were in existence when he signed the law. >> so we're hearing from a different tone of bill clinton there, senator. we've got the newfound confidence that we're watching from the president, his white house, this new strike team. there are some of leaders right there, these democratic lawmakers. do you think there's enough time for the president to rewrite the narrative on obama care? >> absolutely. absolutely, thomas. the main point that has

were there, president george bush 43, bill clinton, jimmy carter and barack obama. probably the only thing the four could agree on is they all admired and adored barack -- obviously, nelson mandela. and he was that kind of a force, not just as at the highest levels of political power in the world, but among the people, as well. i was in that soccer stadium the day that he was released after he was released. and it's just hard to fully understand the transformation of that country. you have to remember that before he was released, we didn't know what he was going to do once he got out. that he became even a larger figure in our lives than anybody could have anticipated. because he didn't tip his hand in any way about how he wanted to unify the country. there were elements of the a & c who said let the war begin now. but he chose not to go in that direction. and i think as obama put it, very appropriately today, he not only changed laws, but changed hearts, as well. it seemed to me that in his speech, as a tribute to nelson mandela, obama was speaking not just to the south african peop
